Anson Burlingame & Burlingame Treaty of 1868

A White New Berlin, New York born, attorney, abolitionist, U.S. diplomat to China, and chief architect of the Burlingame Treaty of 1868. Treaty lifted prior restrictions on Chinese immigration, which was the catalyst for the major wave of immigration from China to the U.S. during Reconstruction.
