Chronicling America features an 1876 Cheyenne Daily Leader newspaper article, written by an unknown author, that details the violence against white settlers in the Laramie region after the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868. The article provides various accounts of Native American hostility towards white settlers. The unknown author goes on to criticize the Commission of Indian Affairs for allowing the agent at Red Cloud to submit a supposedly incomplete report that claimed the Native Americans were unknowingly committing the hostilities.
