Description
The Library of Congress features an 1870 historical letter, written by Hamilton Wilcox Pierson, a member of the Ku-Klux Klan, to Senator Charles Sumner (R-MA). The letter claims that violence towards African Americans in Georgia had been overly exaggerated in Congress. Themes include: various accounts taken from individuals in Georgia, a testimony as to why this individual was "ku-kluxed," and an account of "emancipation day" in Andersonville, Georgia.
