Historical Illustration

The Library of Congress features an 1868 historical illustration, drawn by Thomas Nast and featured in Harper's Weekly, that depicts President Andrew Johnson--who became 17th President of the United States after President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in April of 1865--as a child standing on a stool pulling a large book from a bookshelf. In the second portion of the illustration, Johnson is depicted as being crushed by the book he was reaching for labelled "Constitution of US."
