The Digital Public Library of America presents an 1868 impeachment summons, written by Chief Justice Salmon P. Chase to seargant-at-arms George J. Brown, requesting that Brown serve a summons to President Andrew Johnson (D-TN)--who became the 17th President of the United States after President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in April of 1865--for him to stand for his impeachment trial.
