The Aiken Standard presents an updated 2020 article, by Landon Stamper, on South Carolina residents' petition to erect statues in honor of three Black Republican politicians - Prince Rivers, Charles D. Payne, Samuel Jones Lee - who helped establish Aiken County during the Reconstruction Era. The article includes brief highlights of their lives and a image of the men found in the Aiken County Historical Museum.
