The New York Public Library features an 1870-1872 political cartoon that depicts Senator Charles Sumner (LR-MA)--the leader of the anti-slavery forces in Massachusetts and the Radical Republicans in the United States Senate--as a nurse holding a child wrapped in a blanket labelled "Civil Right Bill." In the background, a man is holding a paper that says, "Tribune," along the top of it.
