The South Carolina Legislature features a resolution introduced and adopted by the South Carolina House of Representatives on March 3, 2015. The resolution intended to "Recognize and Honor the Men of Color Who Founded Aiken County in 1871 and to Dedicate March 10, 2015 as 'Aiken Founders Day in South Carolina'." The resolution acknowledges Prince Rivers, a formerly enslaved man from Beaufort, South Carolina, who served as a Union Army Sergeant, a trial judge and became one of the founders of Aiken County.
