Chronicling America features a February 26, 1898 article, writer unknown, from The Yorkville Enquirer newspaper on the lynching of Frazier Baker- the first Black postmaster in Lake City, South Carolina who was murdered, along with his one year old daughter, in a racial terror attack by armed White men in 1898. The writer provides a description of the town, and his/her critique of Baker's "incompetency" as a postmaster, before providing a graphic account of the lynching and attempted lynching of the other family members that survived.
