Chronicling America features an 1898 article, writer unknown, from the The Anderson Intelligencer on the lynching of Frazier Baker- the first Black postmaster in Lake City, South Carolina who was murdered, along with his one year old daughter, in a racial terror attack by armed White men in 1898. According to the article, Baker was attacked prior to his murder and given "sufficient warning." The article also offers a brief account of what happened to the members of the Baker family as they tried to escape the attack on their home, and noted the different perspectives among Black and White community members following the incident.
