Teaching American History provides an 1868 speech by Richard H. Cain - a free born Black man from Virginia who became a pastor, entrepreneur and Congressman (R-SC). Themes include: a proposal of ideas for land redistribution and work contracts in South Carolina, an expressed desire to "advance the interests of all classes," and leave behind "that hateful idea that the complexion of a man makes any difference as far as rights are concerned."
