Description
The Digital Public Library of America features an 1870 historical speech, given by Henry McNeal Turner in Macon, Georgia, that provides an account of the benefits of the enactment of the 15th Amendment--which prohibits the denial of suffrage to any United States citizens based off of race. Turner emphasizes that the ratification of the 15th Amendment was "the crowning event of the nineteenth century" and the African American rights have been "emancipated as well as our bodies and guaranteed by the breath of God's approval."
