Hampton University features a copy of an April 23, 1863 letter that General David Hunter sent to the Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. Hunter's letter was addressed to Confederate Army leader, Jefferson Davis. In his letter, Hunter discusses his opinions about Jefferson's war against the United States and Davis' call to execute him and others for training Black Union troops.
