Chronicling America features an 1865 Weekly Union Record newspaper article, written by an unknown author, that provides an account of the behavior of Vice President Andrew Johnson (D-TN)--who would become the 17th President of the United States after President Abraham Lincoln's assassination--at the the second inaugural address of President Lincoln. According to the account, the way Vice President Johnson's behavior is discussed "in public and private is scarcely less reprehensible than the offense which has been committed."
