The Library of Congress presents an 1866 political cartoon, drawn by J. L. Magee, that depicts President Andrew Johnson (D-TN)--the 17th President of the United States from 1865 to 1869--with the ears of a horse, holding his top hat in his hand, and shaking hands with a white man in the foreground. In the background, there are various white individuals, some mounted on horses, as well as an African American man watching the exchange between Johnson and the other individual. Also, to the right of the image, an individual wearing a crown has his arm around another individual as they watch the exchange.
