The Tennessee Virtual Archive presents an 1866 political cartoon, drawn by Thomas Nast and featured in Harper's Weekly, that depicts President Andrew Johnson--who became the 17th President of the United States after President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in April of 1865--with an enlarged head kicking a bureau labelled "Freedmen" out of a house labelled "The Veto."
